“The People’s Money Speaks”: Data Stories from the Whole Community Health Datathon
Students will present their visualizations and data stories produced during the March 27 Whole Community Health Datathon, which will focus analyzed the NYC Civic Engagement Commission’s People’s Money data related to the five social determinants of health–domains: Economic Stability, Education, Healthcare, Neighborhood & Built Environment, Social & Community Context–to create policy briefings. The process included two pre-events that focused on the social determinants of health and NYC health policy/platforms and the ethics of using machine learning to process data to retain the integrity of the community voices represented in the 9,000 ideas generated through the People’s Money community idea generation process. Students received feedback on their work during the Datathon from the NYC Civic Engagement Commission and the Service Design Studio at the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity.
